Lunch will after your city tour and then your driver guide will transfer you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via Katuna/Chanika border. From Kigali to Bwindi can take you approximately 3-4 hours’ drive in a well-serviced Safari Van or 4WD Land Cruiser.

Where to stay:

Luxury: Haven Lodge Buhoma or in Chameleon Hill Lodge

Mid-range: Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge or at Gorilla Mist Camp

Budget: Trekkers Tavern Ruhija or Nshongi Camp

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and return to Kigali through Katuna/Chanika border

Have a delicious cup of tea or coffee and after, on your right attire for gorilla trekking plus some packed lunch and bottled water, head to Bwindi park offices. Meet the park official for briefing on etiquette for gorilla trekking and also to be allocated to a habituated gorilla group to trek. In Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, treks to see gorilla begin from any of its 4 trailheads; Rushaga, Nkuringo, Buhoma and Ruhija regions.

The actual trek starts early in the morning at 8:00am and the park guide will be available to accompany you on a trek to view gorillas. About 2-6 hours can be spent navigating through the lush rain-forest and steep slopes while searching for these rare creatures. This is unpredictable because it can take you less or more hours and once you come across mountain gorillas, there is only an hour designated for you to have a close interaction with these apes and for photography. Later, retreat from your gorilla trek to be awarded gorilla trekking certificate at park offices. Return to Kigali afterwards while enjoying the scenic side of Kigezi highlands and the rolling hills of Rwanda.
