1 Day Rhino tracking Safari to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
1 day rhino tracking safari takes you to the only place in Uganda where you will be able to spot Rhinos in their natural habitat – Ziwa rhino sanctuary. This place is situated in the central district Nakansogola along the same route that connects you to the best national park in the country – Murchison falls National Park.
Ziwa covers an area of 7000 hectares, made up of Savannah and woodland where 22 species of southern white rhinos reside. Its also home to a number of other wildlife species like the hippos, kobs, warthogs, waterbucks, bird species – over 350 species like the elusive shoebill stock, blue spotted dove, African black crake, bronze mankini, African broadbill, Abyssinian ground hornbill, broad billed roller and many others.
These endangered species can be best seen on foot along with the help of an armed game ranger

Detailed itinerary for 1 day rhino tracking in Ziwa rhino sanctuary
Day 1: Transfer to Ziwa rhino sanctuary and rhino tracking
Wake up excited because this is the day you will get to see the endangered species in their natural habitat. Our driver/guide will pick you from your hotel of residence early in the morning hours right after breakfast, brief you about the itinerary and later you will embark on a journey to Ziwa Rhino sanctuary which is situated in the north of Kampala. You will set off at 7:00am to beat the early morning traffic jam and use the Kampala – Gulu highway to access this sanctuary. Along the way you will get to see the beautiful countryside made up of different landscapes, plantations and you will also get to see local sell fruits along the route as well.
Upon arrival at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, you will be briefed and equipped with enough knowledge about these rhinos and history as well before heading into the wild to search for them. Right after briefing, the game ranger will lead you to the in search of these species. Rhino tracking takes about 2 – 3hrs depending on the location of the rhinos.
During tracking you will see a number of white rhinos in the wild at a very close distance. Here, you will be allowed to take pictures of the endangered species as they feed. You can also look out for other species like birds, reptiles, bush backs, hippos, monkeys and many others. On spotting the rhinos, you are allowed to spend with them time of up to 1hr.
Once the tracking is done, you will be led back to the sanctuary offices where our driver/guide will pick you up and head to Kabalega hotel, relax for minutes and then later you will proceed on a journey to Kampala arriving in the evening hours. You will either be driven back to your hotel or to Entebbe international airport.
